Will these drivers work in this cab?

I'm not very technical when it comes to this stuff, I don't really need an explanation, Just wondering if this would work:

A friend is selling a 410 Dr. Bass Enclosure with no drivers, but it was designed for and had FAITAL PRO W10N8-200's.

I have some spare Eminence BETA-10A's, are they similar enough to work in this enclosure?

Here are the specs, not sure what any of this means. I appreciate your time.

Did it have drivers when it arrived from Dr. Bass??? :hiding:

It did. Marc also pulled his "financial problems" and not enough time excuses with him.

My buddy's fiance is a big shot NYC attorney, she works on Wall Street and specializes in White Collar crimes and ponzi schemes . After he mentioned having her take care of it to Marc, a beautiful cab showed up a week later.

That's called "Walking softly and carrying a BIG stick!" :D

My humour was not directed at those folk who are the victims of Marc's disgusting behaviour.

Yeah I'm not sure. I don't have a good feeling about pursuing this. The cab is in a storage unit and isn't worth my time tracking down and measuring.

It was a good deal, but I'm sure I can better invest my money elsewhere.

fair enough. If the cab itself is decently made (I have no experience w/Dr Bass, just read the horror stories dealing w/the guy) and you're getting it cheaply could be worth at least looking at.

Four of those Beta 10s in a small (ca. 0.7 cu ft for each driver) vented enclosure could make for a nice cab, esp if they're just sitting around collecting dust. Also good for monitors.

Marc used Betas in his RX line . I had a RX 310 and it was a really great sounding cabinet , those Beta 10s are very nice sounding drivers in the right box . Great mids a decent low end , I had no trouble getting a tight low end with the B string of my fiver . He pretty much didn't tune the boxes for specific drivers that I can tell . I had a couple of his 115 cabs with different drivers and they both had the same port leangth and size . If that 410 has the offset drivers and a triangle shaped port at the bottom it's probably the same basic design as my 310 was so I'd say those Betas would work fine .

Marc was a bad businessman but his cabinets were very good sounding . Here's a picture of my old 310 .

He did send me an outside sketch of the cab. He said it was a special build, not too sure of the details of Dr. Bass's cabs.

The outside dimensions are est. 24x24x16 with 4 ports on the back about 3 inches each. I'm sure that doesn't help

Like I said, I am not sure of the details.

I really which I knew more about matching up cabs and knowing what this stuff means.

Can put your Betas in there, seal off the ports, and call it an NV410.:)

Yes, make it a sealed cab.
These beta's don't have TSP's that are suitable for a (small) ported design.
You can use them in a ported design but then you'll need at least 70liters (2.5cu ft) per driver....that would make for a big 410 :D
Eminence recommends 19.8 liters - 70.8 liters for a vented design, yeah right. 19.8 liters definitely doesn't even give mediocre results.....
Close these ports dude, it will make these Beta 10's happier.

I actually do have a NV610, it's my main gigging rig.

Would I be able to run the NV610 with this 410 (if I seal ports) for a unnecessarily big rig?

What do you mean? If it is possible to run both the NV610 and the 410? Sure, but the thing that may occur is that the power distribution between the 6 10's in the NV610 and the 4 10's in the 410 will be slightly different.

wrong :rollno:.

Look again at the Eminence cab sheet and run it on WinISD to confirm.

Like I said, it can work. But you get a more accurate response when you run them in a small sealed cab instead of a small ported cab.
When you look at the Eminence sheets you see that the small vented cab is not of much use for a basscab.......

dhsierra, I'm building loudspeakers(hifi, studio, basscabinets) for more then 25 years, have all the measuring equipment etc.... I just want to give some good advise so people with less knowledge will make the right choices.
Btw, there are better tools then WinISD.

Eminence and WinISD don't agree on much at all really, perhaps what eminence do is listen with an experienced ear and make minor port changes to a range of test cabs until they get something that actually works, much like we used to at Celestion before Mr Thiel made some useful generalisations that with the aid of computer number crunching has, Very much like the recording industry, given everyone the chance of making some horrible sounding products.
I am just waiting for a program that can make any kind of sense of something slightly more complex than a rectangular box with a hole in it. like model what actually goes on with say, an acoustic control corp 408 4 X 15 with any sort of reliability.
So I can get some help to work out a lightweight 4 x 10 using the same
principal, but no real help from software so far.:bassist:

I'm using Boxsim a lot, you can simulate closed and ported designs AND it takes bafflestep into account. So, you can pretty much simulate how e.g. a 410 will behave.

Righto mate we will take a look, my son is also obsessed with good bass
Here is his rather difficult to model 12 X 15" hexa horn design.[Invalid or Expired Link Removed]
Neat huh!:bassist:

That's indeed not easy to model  it's sheer impossible.
If you want to simulate that (indoors in a car) then it's in fact sort of a cab inside a cab. And these carsubs have nothing to do with regular bassreproduction:D Crazy stuff.
Those designs are more like trail&error, you can sort of calculate the volume the drivers need and the tuning frequency. But you also have the closed cab at the "other" side of the drivers, yes, the interieur of the car itself.....but with all those "leaks" it gets more and more difficult to predict the behavior of such system in the car itself.
Just trail&error, measuring, tweaking, measuring, some digital EQ, measuring, etc......
