It's small, it's lightweight, you can mount it in different ways … so I don't agree it's dead at all.

Which explains why it's selling like gangbusters compared to everything else on the market.

It is consderably more expensive for a sound that imho is not any better than stuff for 1/3 the price. I borrowed a bass on tour and was excited that it had a Wilson on it. I came to find out it was just another pickup. It had good and bad points just like all the rest.

I think the high price (due to the conversion rate DKR <->USD) is one reason. The other reason is that the original Wilson K4 has this particular 1980ies taste (NHØP kind of sound) …

I thought it was fine but no better than any of the other good quality (Full Circle, Realist, Bassmax, etc) pickups out there.

Perhaps it would be better to leave the interiour of the bass untouched. But speaking of Wilson K1........how about mounting it into the bass side leg, like 5-10mm above the bass top. that shouldn't compromise the construction of the bridge leg either. It would be almost the same principal as The Realist, but perhaps even better.......

i did this - for two weeks- sound was very unbalanced (g-string was too quiet)

Oki....so maybe Uncletoad is right. Perhaps it´s better to move on to more normal ideas. One cheap and simple design would be the Shadow SH951 (single paddle Underwood style). I´ve tested the double-paddle version (Underwood copy), but I find the sound to be a little too much electric. Anyone´s got experience with the single-paddle Shadow SH951?

There are several popular bass pickups. They are popular for very good reason. In order of popularity as I see the market:

Fishman Full Circle
The Realist
Rev Solo
Underwood

Perhaps honorable mention to K&K products like the Bass Max.

If you can't make it work with one of those there is something funky about the bass, the things you plug into, or the player.

I'd start with one of the top two and go from there.
