Windows 7 trouble

Ok, so I have Windows 7 and I can't seem to properly right click items on the taskbar. For example, Google Chrome is open but to get the right click menu I have to left click it's icon in the taskbar and drag the mouse up then let go to get the menu. Anyone have any ideas on how to solve this?

It's hard to tell from your description but it sounds like a possible ID-10T error. Did you check the taskbar settings?

I have but I don't see anything that looks out of order. If there's anything that could make my description clearer, let me know. If it is a ID-10T error how could I fix it?

Do your right clicks work on everything else (e.g. the desktop, on icons/shortcuts, etc)?

Oh and thanks for that tip, didn't know about the left click drag up function :-D

Yea, it works fine everywhere else.

Just asking obvious troubleshooting, but sometimes we forget:

1) Did you do a cold shutdown and restart?
2) Has this been happening all the time?
3) tried unplugging and plugging back in the mouse?
4) Windows doesn't need updating?
5) Ran a virus scan (and is the antivirus database up to date)?

After installing a buttload of updates (been months since I've used it). The problem seems to be fixed.

I would be questioning why it happened in the first place to make it easier to solve the next time it happens.

• What mouse are you using?
• Does it need drivers installed to use all the functions properly?
• Did you change the settings to something else then back again to your normal setup?

I would be questioning why it happened in the first place to make it easier to solve the next time it happens.

• What mouse are you using?

All settings were on default. I'm almost positive that the problem had something to do with the fact that I'm running Windows 7 with a Bootcamped Macbook Pro partition, though beyond that I couldn't say. The weird part about it all is that right-clicking was fine unless I tried it on the taskbar.

Nah, not on top of OSX (virtual machine). I'm running Windows on a separate partition, essentially a windows computer that loks suspiciously like a mac . Bootcamp usually takes care of all driver requirements. It worked perfectly with Windows XP. Anyway, all fixed now

More worrisome, you're allowed to use a 2-button mouse on a Mac? Steve Jobs would be horrified. The whole business of single- and double-clicking is because of his stubborn insistence on a single button mouse.

Well then, you should probably check the nut behind the keyboard too and make sure that is in good condition.
