Winter Build Off 2020: Metal

Now that I have my tools at my house I can finally start. First some pictures.

Specs:

Through Neck
Scale: 39-40"
Neck: Maple
Fretboard: Oak
Body: Steel
Pickups: GFS Overwound Pro P pickup
Tuners: DIY Straight Pull
Bridge: Brass T stock
Electronics: on/off button
Tuning: G0, A1

Planning on doing something similar to what I ended up doing with my 2017 build off build with a wooden neck through and bent steel body wings, I haven't decided if I want to do a full cover on the wings or just a "pickguard." I'm planning on extending the body thickness part of the neck to the base of the truss rod so it stays nice and stiff with the really long neck.

Got all the wood cut, I need get the design and fretboard template printed and the strings in, then I'll be able to finalize the length and glue everything up and start bending the sides. Should be a fairly quick build.

Couldn't say it better myself. Real bad ass look from just the rendering. Last one was fretless wasn't it? Plan on the same for this one?

The last one was, but this one will not be, there's no way I could keep good intonation down to G0 (24.5Hz)

Great point, I'm excited to see this one turn out. Especially with how low the tuning will be!

I won't claim that you have weirder ideas than me, but you do seem to be as willing as me to explore the fringes. Bravo.

Yep it's tuned in fifths with the middle string missing, I noticed that that gave me good access to the octave and the third above the octave. It's kind of a proof of concept for a 40" to 37" fanned fret 4 build I'm thinking about doing. Most of my time will be spent on the A string and I might restring it for something more sensible like A0 E1 in the future but this is something I've been wanting to try.
