Winter Build off 2022 - ThunderJag

This is the build that wasn't planned. Like, at all. I have been building a bass in my mind for about 7 years, finally have some of the elements in place to make a go at it, starting ordering parts.
I don't have a planer, jig, or band saw. So my choices are limited to what I can get in there

I ordered a chunk of mahogany, but was unsatisfied with the pre-cuts and sent it back. So my original plans of the bass I had envisioned are on hold.

Either Tbird NR or FSO Jaguar
What I'd like to do, is be able to test some pickup locations, configuration, et al, and not ruin a decent bass. At the same time, I'd like to practice the routing and shaping aspects of building so I don't learn on a final product.

Thus the "My Little Mule". Literally a test bed, it will be a modular of sorts built out of scrap wood and designed to be recut/sectioned in the future if the pickup channel gets compromised. If something gets ruined, meh

Regardless of direction, this is one of my realities living in the desert. All of my basses do sprout. So I left this almost new neck in the dry garage for a month on purpose.

While I ponder my test mule body and wait for the mahogany, I'll work these clean, make some more doodles, and continue my parts list. Then I'll work on a to do list

And since I don't work without music, here's what's on:

Same here. Pretty much any instrument that comes here, or when we lived in Idaho for that matter, get fret sprout. On the plus side, it's always dry, even in summer, so once I have something set up they seldom require attention.

Yeah, it's just become part of bass ownership. Crack a root beer, turn up the tunes and kill an evening or so.

So with the body I want to use actually coming now, I am shifting gears. Kind of. Still building the "Little Mule"

but I will also do the actual build I had intended "ThunderJag" (thanks @RedVee for the name). Other than rounding up parts for 2 bodies and filling frets, not much time with the holiday and family in town. Took a few measurements and pondered the Mule side

Also as another side note, my good friend @GBassNorth (thanks G) and the fine folks in the Thunderbird Club have a few builders there. G has been measuring every Tbird he owns and sharing the pick up spacing as he plans his own project. It's giving me ideas of trying some of those in the Mule before making pick up cuts in the ThunderJag body

I'll retrace my template for the test mule back from this and butcher together the reclaimed wood. Unfortunately the cool patterning on that was just surface mung.

But I've never built a body, so I want to still do the work, even if the body will only be a test bed. Once I've tried the pickup spacing, I will retrace all the steps on the good body and make a final product

Don't expect much out of me, I've made more sawdust than progress so far!
Definitely not recommending reclaimed wood if all you have to square it up is a small table saw

Seems we are in the same boat. No planer or bandsaw. I do have a jig saw. On the other hand I have no drill press, do you have one?

I do have a drill press, table saw, and compound miter saw. I can see how this type of thing could quickly spiral into buying lots of shop toys!
