Hello!

It seems I have [almost] enough spare parts to slap together into a build for the Winter 2023 Build Off. To stick to the sci-fi theme, the look of this one will be inspired by Ra as depicted in Stargate.

Got this basswood billet (idea sketched on with pencil, will likely tweak it some before i start cutting), the local cheap-o wood for the neck, and some gold hardware. I don't have pickups yet, and I'd like to get something fancy for the fretboard. Haven't decided what kind of pickups or weather I want it fretted or fretless. I have a much more complicated design I want to make, but I'm still pretty inexperienced, so even if this is no masterpiece it'll be more practice under my belt before I start on my crazier design. Let's hope the weather lets me get outside and get some work done on this.

I’ll look forward to seeing your design choices.
I totally geeked out on Stargate at one point.
I was bedridden for a month and sometimes medicated too much to read and the library had the movies, all the seasons and spin-offs on dvd and I watched everything Star Gate over the course of a week or so.
I’m glad we have this safe nerd space where we can admit these things.

I made a guitar recently that had similar points and curves. In real life, it's a pain to play it in your lap. :) Like, literal pain. There is no comfortable position to play this thing unless standing and with a strap!

The bottom bout looks to be a bit more forgiving to thighs on your design than mine. But it was a learning experience for me because it was the first body style I designed from paper to product.

That looks sick! Similar idea on the shape. It's kinda covered by the notepad but mine swoops inward to for a soft "x" almost. I usually play standing so I'm not too worried about it being uncomfortable, although that cut should be the perfect size to rest on my thigh to sit with just gotta hold it in kinda an awkward position. I just ordered a fretboard blank, and I'm thinking I cannibalize the EMG Geezer Butler P bass pickups I have in another bass I don't ever touch.
