Wire from input to neck pickup disconnected on jazz bass

Hey everyone,

I just took home my school's old squier jazz that nobody's touched in about 10 years, and said I would fix it up, just like restring it and adjust the action and pickup height. I never bothered adjusting the volume and I've also never played another jazz bass, so I had no clue that there was anything wrong electronically until I started messing with the pickup volumes at home. I noticed that when I turned off the bridge pickup, there was no volume and the neck pickup knob did nothing.

I've never opened up an instrument, but I decided it couldn't hurt and found that there's a wire that goes from the input jack to the bridge pickup, then same from the same little circular metal bit a wire from the bridge pickup to the neck pickup. The wire is disconnected at the neck pickup, but it's still connected to the bridge pickup. Again, I've never done anything electrical before in my life, so how can I get this thing reconnected? I've heard stuff about soldering but I don't have any tools to do that and have no idea how it works. Are there alternative solutions?

The loose wire should be reconnected by soldering it back into place. I would suggest seeking out someone that can do this repair for you.

Okay, yeah I was looking for other solutions and I couldn't find any so I figured that was probably the best thing to do. Also, looking again I found that there was another thing disconnected but instead of a wire it was just a small strip of metal between each knob. It's still meant to be connected to a small circular thing, so would I also get that soldered?

I believe so, but I can’t be 100% sure without seeing it. If you could post a pic, that might be helpful.
