I have a US Masters 5 string bass that has an interesting component in the wiring(pic's). It almost looks like a pickup and I'm looking into the way it is wired. Is it possible it is something like a signal booster(transformer)?? It is all passive. Any ideas ??? Jeff
Have no idea what that is.... but just for grins, maybe its an inductor? I know that Bill Lawrence made some bass worthy Q-Filters (inductors) that when dialed in thru a tone control, replacing the capacitor, would scoop out the mids, rather than cut highs.
Thanks for the feedback guys, still trying to wrap my head around the wiring. There are two SPDT switches there, that I thought were coil splitters. Nope.
It's a sealed circuit, epoxied into a P-bass pickup casing. Here is how USM described the circuit: As I understand, it is a notch filter, which narrows the badwidth of wide-range pickups. It works like a parametric EQ, but in a fixed frequency range. I believe the EQ Type switch has a middle position that bypasses the circuit, making the tone knob a regular treble roll-off.
huh, i actually have a coil winder and can wind small choke coils, and etc.. with it. maybe someday i'll experiment.
