Hey guys,

I'm sure this has been asked before. If you guys have a link to another thread, I would appreciate it. Otherwise I have some questions.

I currently own an Ibanez SR506 with the original Bart MK1s and an Aguilar OBP-3 preamp, as well as a BTB846SC with the stock bart pups and preamp.
I am looking to upgrade the pickups in both basses to their quad coil upgrades (MK62J squared and H662J squared respectively) as well as the bart upgrade preamp in the BTB.

A gentleman from Bartolini informed me that it is totally possible to install a toggle switch to each pup for individual coil selection. I cannot seem to find a schematic for this set up at all.
Seeing as I have no experience with this and will be paying someone to install these for me, I must supply them with a schematic.

Looking to install both sets in parallel with the individual toggles.
Quite a few toggles to choose from. Any recs?

Anyone have any leads or experience with this?
All help is greatly appreciated!

So, Ibanez SR506>Aguilar OBP-3>coil switch>MK62J (x2)

Then, BTB>preamp upgrade(?)>coil switch>H662J (x2)

I would think it important to focus on how the components hook up to each preamp, for now, then proceed.

Is the Bart link you provided for passive connections?

The link I provided has schematics for both active and passive wiring.
Page 2, bottom diagram shows that both pups attach to the blend knob, then get sent to the preamp.

With the OBP-3, it's the same in that both pups go to blend, then to the rest of the preamp

SR506>Aguilar OBP-3>coil switch(x2... (1 per pup))> MK62J^2 (x2)
BTB846SC>Bart HR5.4AP/918>coil switch (x2... (1 per pup))> H662J^2 (x2)

The trouble is finding where/how to put a toggle per pup. I've seen a few basses with this configuration before.
Someone's hiding that secret sauce lol

This is a schematic, I doubt it's really what you want:

Awesome! We'll get it, eventually! Are you sure it's not one of the wiring diagrams provided by the site?

I'm not totally sure, but my best guess is this:

Either combine the first two schematics on page three for HB/SC switching, OR combine schematics 3 and 4 for series HB/SC/Parallel HB switching. Only, I'm such a novice with this stuff that I'm not certain if that will work.

Do those options look like they'll work to you?

Thank you for your patience!
It seems like the answer has been in my face the whole time, but reading these things is greek to me.

Yes, you can do this. I did on dual coil HBs on a bass. Each Pup has a 3 pole switch, and they go to a blend the hot and ground out of the switch is just the pickup wire in the normal blend pot schematic.

I used Norstrand diagram which is the same as the 3 pole shown on the Bart diagram.

Quick question, what is your purpose for the quad coil? So you can have noise canceling with in single coil mode? Or there should also be a wiring option to operate in a split coil mode? I’m not sure how different they would sound between those two settings. Good luck!

I'd be doing a ton of research on this, before attempting it... cause I'm cheap and I want it to work the first time I do attempt it.

I, in good faith, can't sway you one way or another, without analyzing both the preamp connection and it's peripheral components.

Make sure you know what you want from this mod, though... and then, make it happen.

DOPE!
Much appreciated, man. Thanks for translating in layman's terms.

Essentially, I want hum cancelling for all SC/HB combos. As I play with a few different groups, having those options would be nice to chameleon (no pun intended) my way through groups.

Same situation, man. I can't afford to screw up lol
Making my own thread is usually my last resort to get answers.
I know its possible, just needed confirmation and got it.

Thanks
