I'm going to have an anterior cervical fusion at C6/7 Thursday.

I don't want pity as I feel it is mentally destructive.

I've had ten years of what I would call "attacks" of pain and stiffness that was unreal. I would get high doses of prednisone, shots , pain meds , therapy etc... It would always clear up within a week or to only to rinse and repeat every 4 months or so.

This I felt it come on and went for the ride only to have the stiffness subside but severe pain settle in my upper back and arm. I also have muscle atrophy of my left tricep, shoulder and far left side of my chest. I have lost 75% of my strength in the areas. Luckily my hand has not been affected yet. Unfortunately I cannot play bass, sit at the computer ( typing this on my phone) , and perform other tasks as the pain is insane. I can sit on a soft chair or couch though and feel pretty good. I can also work as I feel better during activity , when I "rest" it comes on like no other.
The doc says it's time as ten years is a pretty good indication it's not going away and I am now losing function that becomes more permanent as each day goes by.

I have seen my MRI and the disc is sticking out like a turd in a punch bowl.

Soooooo, here I sit in hydrocodone heaven waiting ....

Hope the pain is gone and my function comes back after surgery , recovery and therapy...
