I know that's true for the majority of the import stuff, but they re-released the Cirrus recently, in the same or similar configurations as the old ones, just made overseas somewhere, kinda like the Lakland Skylines.

For those who have played both older US Cirri, and their newer, overseas-made version, how do they compare?

I agree with a previous poster...no comparison. The overseas stuff is shoddy. I've experienced them during the years working in music shops, and the US stuff is completely on the other end of the spectrum. I've been to NAMM once, have owned/tried hundreds of good basses, and my '06 Cirrus blows them all away, with the only ones playing as well/better?, are Warrior, MTD USA, and Mike Lull.

I have my G-string maybe 2 mm off of the frets, with hardly any buzz. I changed the bridge out for much lower action (HATE the ABM one), and the fretjob is damn-near perfect.

The tone is an angry-Smith-meets-Spector, with that amazing Millennium (added mid-sweep) preamp getting every tone out there, too.

My Tiger Eye Cirrus was the one bass I actually had to RAISE the action on to be comfortable on it. It was crazy low. That was one with the Hipshot bridge.

I had a 4-string Cirrus made in Indonesia about seven years ago. It had a quilted Maple top and looked, sounded and played amazing. The only issue with the 5-piece laminate neck, was that unfortunately it was not very strong. I could not fret a note on the E string and play an octave above it at the same time without it bending the neck out of tune. Even trying to do a slight bend to the neck for vibrato when letting harmonics ring would completely make the strings touch the frets it was brutal, so unfortunately I had to take it back. If I saw a 5-string Cirrus come on the market though USA made, I would be tempted to get one of those. A very versatile sounding bass guitar.

I understand and appreciate the resistance to overseas builds but the harsh reality is the USA bass market is too small so it's sales worldwide that count. Peavey's BXP models sell very well,the Grind is still going strong after 12-13 years. By contrast the USA version lasted less than 3 years.

With the re-issues costing $1000 expect a USA to be at least double.
I see poor sales in the UK for a £2000 USA Cirrus re-issue when a used USA can be had for £400 -£450.
