Woogie amps anyone know anything?

I used to live in Adelaide, which is Woogie central as it's where they're made. I knew Frank Portolese the owner and sole employee for years.

I have a really early Woogie guitar amp I pcked up in a pawn shop which is a knock off of the Boogie Mk 1. It's crude and lacks the versatility of the Boogie but has a certain sonic charm. It also worked quite well as a Bass head.

I was never really knocked out by his Bass amps - they just seemed to lack something even though there wasn't anything actually wrong. They certainly had heaps of grunt.

Having said that heaps of guys in Adelaide used them, including Bruce Howe (ex Fraternity and Jimmy Barnes Band) so what would I know.

All I can say is I wouldn't buy one unless, like any amp, I could try it.

Turns out this one is a hybrid. 2 12AX7's and a fet power stage. Reckon I'll pass especially after visiting my mate this arvo and drooling over his newly acquired 79 Bassman with the original funny angled speaker matching quad. I made him an offer but he does not want to sell so the offer might have to be increased. He is a guitard but loves the creaminess of this thing.

I've used my fair share of amps over the past fifteen years and like many, I have stuck with Woogie Products. Not because it's a local brand but because of it's potential and durability.
Like a guitar, everyone of them has it's own signature in sound. Just like, everyone has a different method of playing. :bassist:

I play anything from rockabilly to death metal and with a flick and a kick of a switch I'm playing a totally different genre and my tubed valve header amplifier has never missed a beat!
Frank is the soul of Woogie, not only the last builder/restorer to date. So, when Franks gone, so is Woogie :bawl:
