I would suggest as well, since you know what kind of price range you are looking at, just go to a local store and try as many basses they stock as possible, you never know what you might find.

if you are in love with this guitar, then you should get it and get the warmoth neck, they start at 180, and they are really nice necks. Just make sure you get the proper holes drilled for the tuners that you already have! no need to buy those twice. Some might say to get another bass for really less money, but if you do it this way, you can always switch back to fretless if you want!

$400ish for the bass , plus another $250ish plus shipping for a basic Warmoth neck. I'm pretty sure they don't come with a nut, so you'll have to have one made, or spend another $25 to have one of Warmoths installed before it shipps. You may have to cough another chunk of money for a fret level job on a Warmoth neck, depending on how fussy you are. Maple boards will have finish oversprayed on the frets, so keep that in mind too. Again, more money to deal with getting it right.

This is a TON of money to sink into a MIM Fender IMO.

You are very much in the ball park for a decent used MIA at this point.

yes, this is an expensive option. But some people (you know who you are!!) have spent more money on an SX than a MIA Jazz. They did it because they wanted something custom, or they really liked the guitar. Or they are just plain crazy! This is not for us to decide. When people try to start making comments on should or shouldn't based on financial reasons, its kinda silly. Thats what GAS is man, we all have it.

The O.P. is looking to replace his MIA Jazz Deluxe without spending a ton of money.

The money the O.P. is looking to spend on this bass (which he/she seems to be G.A.S.'ed up over), plus a Warmoth neck to make it usable, is in the same ball park as what a decent used MIA Jazz Deluxe costs, if you do some hunting. Check ebay completed auctions and they run from the high sixes to about a thousand ish.

Doesn't it make sense to point this out to the O.P.?

... or would it be better to NOT bring this up, and go off all G.A.S.'ed up and spend the same kind of money on an MIM Standard ??

It seems to me a Used MIA Deluxe Jazz(the actual instrument the O.P. is trying to replace/replicate) for the SAME kind of money makes a whole lot more sense. (required IMO)

I actually stated this in an earlier post.

That music go round, has one with frets for less money! really nice ones! I would even go over to my local MGR and look at the instrument for the guy if he wanted.

I am not saying that you are wrong. Read between the lines of the post you quoted, and I think that people that spend a ton of money on inferior instruments are just asking for trouble. Upgrade the neck, then the bridge isn't that great, do that then you need pickups, then you need tuners, then you need that nice body with the great grain so you can justify spending 1000 dollars on a MIM Jazz!

There are ways to have a great playing instrument for short money. My own SX is a good example of that, (required IMO).

Over paying for this Agave Blue MIM (probaby predates the use of Alder body as well) Plus throwing another $200 plus dollars for a neck just doesn't seem like a good plan to achive the goal of MIA Jazz Deluxe substitute on a budget. (again required IMO)
