Would a 1M-ohm pot work for a 1K-ohm pot?

im going to make my own amp, but i need a 1k pot, but the site im looking at only has a 1M-ohm pot. thanks

Won't work.

1K is a very common value so they should be easy to find. Radio Shack might even have them. If not, then try Mouser or Digikey. They take phone/CC orders.

Plus there are lots of sites that sell parts to guitar/bass amp builder/hobbyists. But those places will be expensive.

A 1M pot has a resistance one-thousand times greater than a 1K pot.

So that would be a no.
