Would A MiM Jazz pickup be good for a P/J Setup?

They seem to be really cheap on eBay but would I get any resistance from it when I mount it in my P-Bass or should I just go for a Seymour Duncan Pickup.

Sure why not? MIM pickups are fine. If you can get one for cheap, go for it.

You want the hottest Jazz pickup possible in a PJ setup if you intend to play the pickups together, otherwise the P pickup is going to overpower the J.

The biggest problem is that till a couple years ago, all MIM Jazz pickups were the same size...neck size.... so the pole pieces are a bit off (in bridge position), and if your bass is already routed for a Jazz pickup, the MIM likely won't fit without more routing.

Newer MIM J pickups are ok, so long as you get the bridge position.

Still, as noted above, I would go for a hotter pickup.

Newer MIM J pickups are ok, so long as you get the bridge position.

That was only for a few years. The newer jazz basses have the neck/bridge pup set

i say dont do it unless its standard size.. mims were coming with the neck and bridge pup the same size for a long time and if you ever wanna swap that pickup to a standard bridge size youll have to re route...measure twice and cut once

another issue---hum cancelling. in order to use a single coil, you need a pair of
them to cancel hum. don't use one single coil by itself--trust me

also +1 to needing extra output/punch.

here is my recommendation. use a Dimarzio model J. hum cancelling, plus
extra output/punch.

Take a pass on the MIM J's for this application for all of the above listed reasons. Really, for not that much more you can nab a MUCH nicer pickup.

That depends entirely on how much the true single coil J tone means to you.

I use a single coil on my PJ, and my main tone is soloing the bridge pickup. It most certainly hums, but it just goes with the territory of having that sweet single coil tone.

This is a very subjective issue though.
I guess a lot of people either have to have humcancelling pickups or they are satisfied with the humbucking J tone, but I'm still a single coil guy.

i had that set. IMO the model P is too fat/deep for neck position. i yanked it out
& installed a vintage P SDuncan. much happier now! YMMV
