I currently own a stingray and a road worn jazz. I have a carvin sb5000 on order and it's suppose to be done tomorrow. I'm thinking about selling the jazz to order a sb4000.(depending how much the sb5000 speaks to me) would it be dumb to have two basses so similar, I like the fact I can name my options on the sb.

I agree with Rockingbird. It's your money and your basses, and that should be all that matters, not what anyone else thinks or would do. Let them do what they want and you do what you want and it's all good.
Everyone hears and feels different than you. I love the Fender Jazz, yet others hate it. Your money, your bass, and you do whatever feels right.

I bought a 4 string version of my 8 string because I liked it so much but can't play the 8 all the time.
It's great having the same pickups and wood so the tone is very similar, plus I like the way they look and feel.
Different colors, though.
