Double Bass Would this work as a bass stool? (How high does a stool need to go?)

Hey forum.

I found this stool on Amazon, and I like because it can go down to a normal seat height, but I'm not sure if it would be quite high enough for bass playing. It says that the seat goes up to 28" off the ground. What do you think? Anyone wanna measure their bass stool height? Thanks.

If it's 28" to the bottom of the seat, you're pretty much at bar stool height, which is what I like. Looks good to me!

The standard bar stool is 29" tall. I play on a 24" stool because it's more comfortable for me not to have the endpin extended when playing seated - it makes me feel "tippy" to be up that high. Also, the rungs on most bar stools are not even with each other, and I find it more comfortable and healthy to have both feet at the same height to keep the hips aligned.

My colleague at the U, Sid King, keeps a saw in his studio and chops off the extra height of the stool legs to suit the stature and position of each student. This one might be fine unless you are over 6' tall, but you might not like the placement of the rung, which will change the angle of your leg(s) coming off the seat every time you adjust the height.

I use this at home. It's 19 1/4" high x 19" wide. I prefer to use a footstool or a pile of books with it to jack my right leg up. My bass won't slide off that way.

I think I’ve got mine cut to 26in. I keep both feet on the floor, but I’m also on the tall/long legged side, 6’3” or 6’4”.

I just use a cheap wooden stool I got from Walmart. No padding. I think of it more like a saddle than a chair. Don’t know if that helps.

I know you've probably bought by now.
I have that stool. Two in fact. One for my wife for her guitar playing, and one for me for sitting while playing the double bass, or any of my other guitars/bass guitars.
Good for travelling to sit down gigs. Collapses nicely to fit into the back of my station wagon...along with everything else a trio might need.

I got a wobble stool for my standing desk and found that I really like it for practicing bass.
If it were more portable, I’d use it on gigs. Instead, I use an old drum throne that is set for 26”
