Would this work?(I've never switched pickups before, please help!)

So, I've begun to get tired of the PJ setup on my Ibanez GSR200(Buy Ibanez GSR200 4-String Bass | 4 String Electric Bass | Musician's Friend), and was wondering... could I replace them with different pickups? because I was thinking about going over to my local music store and getting these put on-
Buy EMG 35DC Dual Coil 4-String Active Bass Pickup | Soapbar Pickups | Musician's Friend
Could my local music store actually do this, or would that not be possible? Thanks for reading, and helping.

It can be done, but it may not look good.

The new cavities that need to be routed to fit the EMG's will not negate the original cavities. Basically you'll see a bit of space around the EMG's when their installed. But there's ways around that.

You also might need to add a 9v, I'm not entirely sure a single 9v will power the preamp and the EMG's.

I did the same in reverse to my Carvin LB50, which was my first bass. I had a music store put in an EMG P-J set (and 9-volt) where the dual Carvin humbuckers had been.

Sounded the way I expected (better, even) but it really didn't look right -- as Phendyr_Loon points out, the same may happen to you.

Consider going with P-J pickups and preamp that will fit the existing cavities (measure to be sure they really do fit). You can still get a whole new tone and all the benefits of active (headroom, quiet operation, active EQ and electric shock safety). Wish I had thought better of it back then.

Well, the whole point here is to get the tone of these soapbar pickups, rather than a PJ setup, and I don't much care how it looks as long as there's a way to fill the cavities. And, while I'm doing this, I may also get the paint/finish redone... Flat black is beginning to get me a bit tired. But that's a whole different thread.
