Would you buy Bass Rocksmith?

Update for those who are interested in the game, especially coming from bass and never playing guitar:

so far it's a pretty decent guitar method teaching guide, for $50 - $80 (which would equal 1 - 3 lessons if your not including buying a guitar) I'd say not bad at all. Migrating from playing bass for two years to learning some guitar takes a little adjusting to the small size and extra strings and smaller fret spacing (in my case, I play four and five string basses) but it's doable and I've found that going through the techniques and game sessions helps a lot for both bass playing and guitar (quick tip, switch the note bar from standard and it'll read more like a bass/guitar tab and seem a bit easier to follow). Being that I already know how to play bass at an intermediate level it seems like the game picks up on what skills I already possess and boosts itself up a bit and if I start messing up (darn pick and chords don't seem to work well for me haha) it tones it down a bit to get me adjusted. So far I've opened it up to playing in the 4th performance revenue and getting three encores which I don't think is too bad for playing for three days, it has opened mty eyes up a bit to the melody side of things (I still find myself hating using a pick and just using my fingers but overall I'm adjusting). Overall I'd say it's a nice change up and find it pretty cool and can see myself playing guitar from time to time after pounding through the game maybe even trying out some tabs to help compliment my bass playing.

For those that are shunning the game for not having a bass mode by default I'll admit I was tee'd off at first as well, but I see the method to their madness, how many people have bought first act electric guitar sets for their kids compared to beginner bass sets? gotta serve the majority population with electric guitars just sitting in closets collecting dust first then once the idea deems itself successful then throw the curveball of bass in to peak interest and expand once the market has caught on which I'm hoping it will. I'm hyped for the Bass add-ons and would love for them to introduce a Bass specific model cause I'm sure it would challenge a lot of bass players more than they think it would - This isn't just Guitar Hero on a pro level, it's playing a real instrument and teaching the real methods of playing to get you going and carry you through to a more advanced level than just tapping buttons on a ukulele sized plastic guitar. Even if you never advance more than just learning the 50+ songs in the game that's way more than you would get from one $20 - $50 guitar lesson and I can see the same results from a bass version if it catches on - perhaps maybe even a midi port using piano version for those of us that have those cheap electric Casio's and Yamaha's up in the attic LOL.

That's where the techniques section of the game comes into play which I find very useful, It has instruction on method, like double taps and hammer on's and off's, slides, chords, etc.

First it will show and explain how the method is done then take you through a practice session taking you through the paces at a learning pace to see if you got it - if your having problems it will stop or slow down and if you get to the point where your just not getting it it will explain the technique some more until you get it.

Once you have the hang of it it will place you in a challenge mode for the technique in which you can rank by points and medals to see how well you do - very useful!

There's also a gaming section that will put you into an arcade setting where you have several games like shooting ducks according to fret number and string and several other games to help you learn the fretboard, build muscle memory and dexterity.

This is a pretty cool way to learn where it can be approached any way you like, go straight to songs, or learn techniques or chords, or simply shoot zombies and ducks while getting your dexterity and muscle memory going.

I have been playing bass consistently now for a year (man time flies), and it is amazing how much I have learned, and how comfortable it feels. How I cherish the memories of that complete and utter awkwardness of the instrument in those first few weeks....;). What is interesting is how my fascination with bass began.....

In reality, I never touched a real bass guitar - until I bought Rock Band (two years ago) for the family. Yes folks, an avid interest and tenacity in the five button plastic instrument propelled me into playing the real thing - not the other way around!

Given that, should RockSmith provide an option for bass, I'll be all over it. While Rock Band today DOES have a "Pro mode" that uses a real midi-equipped guitar (that they expect you to play bass with as well - BAH), they of course never offered us "lowly" basses a true bass controller....

So YES, if RockSmith will support bass, I'll be all over it. Why not? Fill your arsenal with as many tools as it will hold.....I want to learn as much as I can!

I am planning to get it. I have a nice Gibson SG sitting in storage that I could use to mess with the game until the bass version came out. Would probably still mess with the guitar version even after the bass version comes out.

I was learning guitar for a while, then stopped and had to get rid of my guitars. Bought the SG when I was ready to start learning guitar again but then realized that it wasn't the guitar part of songs that I really wanted to play, but the bass part. Would be nice to pick up the guitar a little again though. Can never have too many skills.

Have an Ibby Artcore guitar I haven't done much with... Sounds like a great way to start learning some of the basics with, anyway, and for less money than four lessons would cost me (my bass instructor charges $25 per half hour) so would be worth it. If / when the bass guitar one comes out, might help me spend more time practicing, so win-win, especially as my husband has a PS3 that he doesn't use much anymore (he mostly plays games on his computer these days...)
