I was playing in a top 40 band as my job in 1982 and made way more than that. I actually made a pretty decent living. An offer of $25 may as well have been for 25¢.

And I would play for the food at most of the restaurants (or the olive oil or balsamic vinegar at that store) in Roswell, GA. Roswell is the "Boulder, CO" of the Atlanta area (without the medical spliffs!).

I've been in a couple bands where I'd play for that (or free), as long as the PA was taken care of. I generally feel that I don't get paid so much for the playing, as the setup/teardown/loading stuff.
