WTH! Thought bass stuff would be easy!

Here is the recycled suggestion. Once you feel comfortable, head to your local candy shop and pick up a few different basses. Fender makes a great P and a great J. Gibson makes a great buck. Test those out. Pick up some more based on their neck. See what feels nice for you. Than go all out and pick up 3 radically different bases (for example: Godin Semi-Acoustic Fretless, Hofner, and maybe a Warwick.) See which one whispers those sweet words of aural foreplay into your ear.

A nut is the piece at the top of the neck where the neck and head meet. It holds the strings in place.
