I've owned a BB404 for 2 weeks now and it's turned into almost a magical experience for me when playing both alone or with my band - it's perfect, I just can't find anything wrong with it.

I've got a BB2005 and it's the greatest instrument I've ever owned. It's stayed in my arsenal as I've bought and sold USA Deluxe Fenders and a Musicman Stingray. I think that says something.

I have a MTD 535, a MTD JJ5 and a Yamaha Nathan East BB NE 2, which is Nathan East's Signature model. I have gigs all weekend, and I am playing the Yamaha on all of them. It's expensive, $2k plus, but it's tonally so versatile, very comfortable to play and looks great when I am wearing a tucks. You cannot go wrong by buying one. I am not saying that it is better than my MTD's, but it is certainly not worse, and cost less.

That's the thing about the Yammys, they make great but highly underrated instruments. I noticed that this phenomenon had spread to other musical instruments as well. Being a saxophonist, every sax player I know will swear by the Selmet Paris and nothing else. Yamaha makes great horns and have been endorsed by greats like Phil Woods.

A Fender to a bass is like a Selmer Paris to a sax is like a Vincent Bach to a trumpet is like a Buffet to a clarinet...the list goes on and the Yammys can never be the Rolls Royce equivalent of anything, such a pity

And the irony is that Yamaha was initially founded (over 100 years ago) as a musical instrument company -- they originally made pianos and organs.

If you look at their logo, those are three tuning forks.

theyre not quite my cup of tea, but every one i have played has been a quality instrument for the money. the pattitucci basses sound amazing, the sheehan attitude bass..well..it works for billy, doesent it?

That is so true. They excel at everything - drums, keyboards, all kinds of brass and woodwinds as well.

I really love my BB404, it´s just a fantastic piece of kit (and that´s coming from a Fender nut). The BB414 is superb too.

I´ve been a trumpet player for 20 years, have owned everything under the sun including vintage Bachs, and the only two horns I kept are Yamahas.

I owned a BB615 for about a year until GAS for an all-mahogany 5-er prompted a sale. I loved the 3-band eq for dialing in rock, funk, and slap tones. Action and neck feel were great. It felt like a Fender when strapped on, whereas an Ibanez SRX705 never hung right against the body, putting the nut in a weird position. In black with the chrome pickup surrounds the BB615 was a hot lookin' bass for biker club picnic gigs!
