Yamaha TRB-1006 vs Ibanez BTB 676

Hello!

I've been using a Yamaha TRB-1006 for more than 2 years now, and I'm not able to get a low action on my E and B strings. Impossible to get a low action without "buzzing". I also find that this base is a little bit heavy.

So looking for other basses, I had the chance to try a Ibanez BTB 676 last week. I really enjoyed the playability: the action is pretty low and there is no buzz or noise! I was also really surprised by the sound, a good growl and really nice tone! I had the impression that it kicked my TRB-1006... and the BTB seemed to be a bit lighter than my Yamaha.

You can guess that I'm considering to sell my TRB-1006 to buy a BTB 676! Am a doing a mistake? Is there any TRB-1006 lover here to tell me that the Yamaha bass is better? I bought my TRB-1006 new for about 1300 CAD, and I can have a new BTB 676 for 800 CAD... This confuses me! Is the TRB-1006 overpriced for the quality? Any BTB 676 user here to tell me that I should go for this bass without any hesitation?

Any advice/testimonial would be really appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Sullivan

Yeah, you might be allright everyone! Thanks for replying. Yes I will definitely take my bass to a luthier, maybe some adjustments will solve my problem. Koki, no I haven't tried the btb1306 prestige, there isn't any at my local stores. But I would love too!

I would still like to hear about those who own a btb676, and who might have already tried a TRB-1006 too! There's not a lot of comments about btb676 on this forum! But I know it's a new bass...

This is Ironic!

i myself am in a very smiler dilemma.
a couple of months ago a got to try the BTB (1005) which got my gas rolling (i figured i should try everything in the price range before buying). I soon remembered my old dream bass the TRB. So Im stuck between the beautiful TRB (which i would have to blind buy) or the BTB

Well, if you found the Ibanez much better, go for it! And im not sure, but i believe that since a new TRB 1006 is more expensive than the Ibanez, You can sell it for a price that would more than half of the ibanez.

Got a brand new TRB 1006 two weeks ago (one of the very last in germany, the TRB 1006 production line is stopped by Yamaha). Action is very well, H- and E-String may be set low without sacrifying the tone (I plug the strings pretty hard).

It's a real working horse regarding all musical styles needing a cultivated, even bass tone: pop, fusion jazz, latin etc. I won't use it for blues or dirty rock.

No probs with slap style, the 35" really support a distinct slap tone.

Thanks for your comment marcblum. My TRB-1006 might need some fret dressing to get a good action, specially for the E and B strings. Overall, it's not that bad since I've done a little truss rod(s) adjustments, but I feel it could be better. For example, its action can never be compared to my Ibanez SR500, but that's a 4 strings, so we may not compare those things.

I'll give it to my luthier soon, and I'll give a feedback about it.

Well I finally did my choice a few weeks ago. I bought the Ibanez BTB676 since there was one in a local music store (lucky I was!!). I then tried it again and I was convinced enough immediatly. Beautiful sound, great neck, great action, easy to play! I'm so happy, it's so nice to play!

By the way, I just let my Yamaha TRB-1006 to the luthier, and he did adjustments, but the the action is not as good as my new BTB. It's not bad though, but I am quite demanding regards to the action, I want it to be very low, as I do lot of tapping. Then, Ibanez are the basses that have the better action for the price I think!

there's nothing like bringing back an older thread. I sent the OP an email, but in case anyone else can help me out that'd be great.

I noticed he said the 676 went for 800 CAD

I need to find that price! The cheapest i've seen so far is roughly 890. So if anyone knows of a cheaper price in canada, PLEASE let me know.

Thanks in advance.
