I am looking for a good 6 stringer. How good is the TRB1006? Any body that owns this please speak up. If their is any sound clips that would be great. How is the construction of the bass compared to other higher end basses? Is this a versitile bass? I am looking for a good all around bass. I like to play rock, funk, blues, country and others. Is the B string deep and warm sounding? And the highs nice and bright when need be? How is the neck and string spaceing? Thanks for any help you might have. :)

Not an owner, but I've played the 4, 5, and 6 models many a time in stores and I can say it's a great bass in it's pricerange. Great selection of woods and colors, decent electronics (most likely it's largest fault), and nice string-spacing and weight. The B is pretty powerful and the the highs are nice and bright, I'd say owing to the 35" scale. Absolutely a killer buy compared to others in the pricerange.

I have a TRB 4-string, but one of my students got the TRB 6 and I've played it - the double soapbars give a nice tonal variety, and the 3 band eq is easy enough to tweak, though I personally prefer to use the amp eq. Spacing is wider than on my RBXJM2. Bang for your buck, Yamahas are GREAT basses. As Ian said, the 35" scale is nice for the low B string.

The Korean TRBs are very good basses and an excellent value, especially if you can score the 1006 in the sub-$750 range.

As has been mentioned, the electronics are probably the weakest point. First of all, more than one reviewer has found that they eat batteries. I haven't kept close track, but playing about 5 hours a week, the Duracell 9v I put in most recently has lasted about 5 months and is about due for a change. As a conservative estimate I would think you'd get about 200 hours out of a battery. Sounds like a lot, but compare this to some other preamps that can get 600hrs or more out of one cell and you see it's a bit inefficient. Also, if you turn the panpot off-center you start getting single-coil noise. At least on the fiver, this is due to the assymetrical coils in each soapbar (they're dual-coil humbucking, but one coil is larger for three strings, and the other one smaller for the other two). I generally don't turn the panpot past 90* from center for this reason. With the panpot centered, the bass is very quiet. A sixer may not have this issue at all, or it may truly be an issue with the electronics.

I find the EQ very easy to use; I have my amp set with a slight notch at 625Hz, and a slight boost to the low and high mids, and from that I can tweak the bass EQ or the seperate bass/treble shelving controls on the amp to get a large range of sounds.

The necks on these basses are very thick, but still feel natural; it's a flattened C shape that feels like they took a four-string neck, cut it in half lengthwise and put a spacer in the middle. It's not exactly like that, but you get the idea. The edge of the neck is very regular, making the upper frets feel very similar to the lower ones. That thicker profile coupled with the 35" scale give you a killer B-string. It's very well-defined, and in standard tuning is very firm and playable.

I don't have a Yamaha 6 string bass but I DO have a fretless Yamaha TRB 1005 5 string bass with LaBella flatwound "Deep Talkin" strings. This bass is a real joy to own amd play and thus far everyone that has played mine seem to fall "in love" with it instantly. In comparison to my highly modified Fender fretless 5 string , the Yamaha is comfortably light and easy to play. Quality of workmanship on the higher end Yamaha TRB series basses is, in my opinion, EXCELLENT! I particularly like the EQ controls which I find to be easy to use. The bass sounds great played through
my Euphonic Audio iamp500 and one (or both) of my EA Wizzy 112's which I use with my acoustic upright basses, EUB's and bass guitars.

Great basses for the money, in my view!
