As far as the price goes, well, globally not that pricey, locally yes.

Rules to slagging ERBs should also apply to slagging every type of bass (Don't know if they do, haven't read them completely

any kind of instrument slagging is pretty much verboten, although the obvious "i'm gonna ebay my abused piece of junk for $20k" threads tend to slide just because the targets in them tend to be more the deluded sellers than the instruments themselves.

based on the reception at other, smaller forums, i'd have to say generally yeah, although not as bad as it used to be.

you'd be surprised. mostly it's young punks that think they know it all (And incidentally are usually so young that they haven't even been alive as long as most of the erb'ers i know have been playing) but sometimes it's also the older guys who should know better.

there's no age limit on feeling threatened by what other folks do, apparently, and there's a segment of the population that's going to voice their fear and intimidation with anonymous e-tuff insults.

that's cool. that's why i'm here, and not just for the erb'er concerns, but for all the folks that don't appreciate that kind of crap. there's enough lowbrow mud-flinging websites on the internet for folks like that to go to - talkbass is not going to be that way.

Everything you've pointed out makes sense, so yeah, I would agree except for the 'perverted authority disapproval' which was more of a joke, but then again, folks do like some nasty stuff being done to them.
The point is people are generally scared of new stuff, especially the stuff that have some sort of connection with the field they're interested in and where new boundaries have been broken - I don't think that any non-bassist or non-musician would ever bother to take the time to put down something that he doesn't know anything about.

And for the record to all ERB hating people - I didn't choose to have a 7/8/quadrillion string bass because I 'mastered' 4 strings, or because I'm a 'monster shredder' or whatever, hell, I've been playing bass seriously for less than a year - but that's what I wanted to have (and of course you and your collection are partially guilty for that) and I got my satisfaction and I'm starting all over again and it makes me happy.
