I've tried searching, but since I have absloutly no clue about recording, the FAQs don't really help.
OK, so heres what I need to do:
Get 2 songs recorded for my band, guitar, vocals, bass and most importantly-DRUMS!!!.
I think I have guitars and bass.
Ive got a copy of Cubase, and a copy of Guitar Rig. Ive tried recording bass and guitar directly into my PC through Line in and it sounds acceptable. For bass, I may use the Line out of my amp as well.
But the main problem is drums, we play prog metal, death metal, general metal. So lots of double bass. So the drums need to sound reasonable. And I have no idea how to do it.
So heres what I've got:
Behringer B2 microphone
Some sort of hard drive/flash recorder thing, which I haven't seen(its my dad) but he uses it with the behringer. I Don't think its designed for recording music, my dad is in architecture/acoustics. So he uses it for analysing sounds.
various PC microphones
The PC I am using has a Creative X-fi, and a dual core and 2 gigs of RAM.so PC power should'nt be a problem(I hope)
4 track tape recorder
big to small mono audio adapter(guitar to pc)
Big splitter(eg 2 guitars to 1 amp)
And between us I'd say we can scrape together maybe £50? maybe a little more.
Yes, I think we will have to record drums with 1 microphone. Ive tried plugging the behringer in my PC, but its very quiet and I think it needs power. I don't have a seperate power supply for it, but I think the recorder (which I haven't seen) provides power for it. But the recorder records to flash or hard drive, I don't think it has an output thing so I can plug it into an audio input somewhere else.
So is there a way to get the microphone power, so I can use the mic straight into the PC?
Also, what other ways are there to record drums effectively, preferably with what I've got, or spending minimal money.

I think your best bet is to have someone else do the drums to be honest- getting a good drum sound is a LOT of work, its not like you just dangle a mic nearby and away you go.
