Yet another thread asking for advice on an Ampeg 8x10.

Seller says this is an 80's SLM? Were SLM even making them in the 80's?

Any ideas what this thing is made out of and if the speakers are any good?
Seller wants around $600 USD for it, thereabouts.

Any help really appreciated!

Gotta say right off, that's the most alarming speaker connection I've ever seen!

Unless these old eyes are not seeing the connector panel properly, Speakon NL4 connectors don't work like that.

What am I missing?

Combi connectors take 1/4". The also accept NL2 and NL4 plugs. But they are only wired for 1+,1-.

NL4 connectors have four contacts. These are typically used in pairs to carry two channels of audio. The contacts for the firsts channel are labeled 1+,1-. The contacts for the second channel are labeled 2+,2-.

Combo connectors only carry one channel: 1+,1-, but they accept NL2 and NL4 plugs.

NL2 connectors only carries one channel: 1+,1-. NL2 jacks are keyed and will not accept NL4 plugs.

I don't know the timeline for ply VS MDF. @JimmyM may be able to help.

From the 90s till sometime in 2006, Ampeg cabs were mostly OSB with plywood baffles.

With all cabs of certain years, check the speakers work well at the type of volume you will want to use, which I assume is pretty loud.
Then check those exact models are still available or recone kits are.
You do not want the expense of replacing 8 chassis, because you can't match 1 blown one

Plenty of rehearsal studios end up with 810 because they dont need moving and are cheap for what they, imv. So they may have had a hard life..??

To answer my own question, I did not know about a combo NL4/1/4” output jack. Not to say I doubted @Wasnex (okay, trust but verify….), but I did look at the Neutrik site and sure enough, there they were…

So now I know…
