you got me again, rounds!

Sorry - didn't mean to cone across as insensitive (no pun intended), it's just that DR sunbeams in comparison really are pretty soft strings.

Ease up with your left hand and don't fret any harder than you really need to, lift straight up when you finish fretting, and if it hurts, stop for awhile. OR, just continue with the flats, if it floats your canoe.

errr.. I played with cheap roundwounds strings before... I got blisters on the day of the show... well i had to stand the pain while playing on stage.. currently i switched to flats.. and happy with the tone... the rounds i use are now only for slapping..

Yes, that happens. But I've got some good medicine: 6 longnecks in a row OR (AND??) couple shots of Jack Daniel's. Gives me a smiling face through the gig and, sure thing, any pain goes away.

You sure they weren't mis-packaged concertina wire? Maybe they were made by a company in Transylvania?

I dislike rounds on all but a few basses that I play since they are whizzy and make zipping sounds and I hate that.

But meat eating strings are kinda hard to imagine unless you're doing something very odd when you play.

Personally I find the ROTO77s (flats) make my fingers tougher, not less calloused. I think it's the tension of them that make my finger pads get hard and tough.

My fingers have six-packs now with all the work outs with the 77s.

And much like exercise, it's good for you (and your sound!) "Got 77's?" Who needs milk. ;)

everyone mentions the fact that they don't like the feel of rounds never the fact that they sound really really really really bad!!!!

Not totally true.

I had the 7250 NPSs on my New Squier VM and my new Deluxe J and they are great on the VM and horrible on the Deluxe J.

The Deluxe J got Elixir Nanos and it is now fine, sound- and feel-wise.

The rounds are harsher - but that's all dial-able with the EQ by cutting the Highs and Mids a tad, boost the Lows and you're in fat city. .
