You have $1200 to spend on any Ampeg head, new or used

I've seen the SVT's in that price range.
and I mean the real ones, not the SVT-CL's or VR's.

this has to be the most frustrating thing. I"m sitting on a little over a grand, wondering what ampeg to buy.

Do I keep saving, and get something in the 1600 range? I have the B2RE now, and it is weak. Overheats, has burned out trice/repaired under warranty, and just weak compared to other ampegs I've played on at the store.

I play out 2-4 nights per week, 4 hours loud rock n roll. SVT 2,3,4,5,6?????

What in the world should I buy?

Me personal Motto when it comes to amps has been "Anything but ampeg" for years. Personally I never heard it felt it or saw it. Mostly I though they sold over priced garabage with crappy browned down tone circutry. But thats just My Opnion.

If discussing vintage 50-70's tube gear that a whole other ball of wax. I am talking about there offerings since the mid 90's.

Something else.

there are so many fine quality amp head in that price range I am fialing to understand the attachment to the brand. I like Kramer bass's but I also own other brands and I also admit the short commings. They are only something I collect for fun and amusement.

That being siad are you Longing for an ampeg for some emotional reason ? Brand Loyalty ? becuase there is tons of gear in the market that just blows Ampeg away.

If its a Tube Amp you seek buy a used Mesa Bass 400+ for less than that or buy a Preamp/Poweramp setup for that kind of change. There are lots of heads out there for that price.

I use a Preamp coupled with a 2400 watt Poweramp hooked into an 800 watt 4x10 and will flat kick my buddy's SVT CL rig in the arse.

I played one of those B2 things a few weeks ago and it flat sucked. I have owned a number of the Ampegs and though there are some good ones most of them I dont like.

Bob Bonner swears by the SVT 4PRO's. You might find a used USA one of those floating around.

IMO stay away from the 5, through 8 PRO's.

The Ampeg name is highly thought of in many circles

If you are looking for a "serious" Rock and Roll amp you may consider trying to find one of these ...

:smug: ... Kinda rare and hard to find but well worth it when you find one

2x4, we get that you don't like Ampeg. You don't need to post 4 or 5 posts saying it in one thread. As a matter of fact, you don't need to post it at all in this thread. This is a pro-Ampeg thread, so beat it, you! ;)

70's SVT all the way!

70's SVT or SVT-II non-pro. I've seen both of these selling (used) for $1000 or less lately.

Even before Ampegs curent problems started, I cant think of any other product brand that had such a bizarre combination of fiercely loyal fans and highly vocal haters. That's a very telling trait, the same things that make some of Ampegs better offerings so right for some, also make them so wrong for others...
