Young Marcus Miller

It is nice to hear Marcus in that sort of setting. He became so well known for that ultra bright slap sound that people, myself included, forgot just how much he was Jaco inspired early in his career, and how much he still is. I don't think it is a stretch to say that as a composer, player, arranger, and producer, Marcus Miller is unequalled among bassists.

I say he is unequalled because I know of know one else who is so utterly cxreative in both jazz and popular music. I think it is because pop was his first love. There is no condescension in Marcus Miller when he plays pop, he playing something he loves just as much as when he is streching out in an extended jazz solo.

It might have been with Urszula Dudziak or Michaeł Urbaniak or just him sitting in at 7th Avenue south, I also saw him there with the Floyd Boys and a few other people, but that was a year later I think, they were so young and great. Long time ago.
BTW if you can find Dudziak's Future Talk with Miller, it's great!

That is very cool, and thanks for the recommendation. There is a track from Future Talk on Youtube.

This thread made me throw on Future Talk. Here's a song with a young Marcus on fretless, he's also paired here with the great Buddy Williams, one of my favorite rhythm sections.
