YOUNG WIDOWS- BASS EFFECTS??

I know there is a picture of the Young Widows bass players ' pedal board in the 'Pedalboards of the Stars" thread. But does anyone have a closeup or know what effects he is using? Dude has a gnarly bass sound. I see some boss pedals from that thread. Anyone know what these are?

When I saw them, he was using a reissue "vintage" Rat. Has that Jesus Lizard sound going on. He also uses a Gibson RD Artist, and when paired with a Rat...that makes up his sound. He also uses a Line 6 delay/looper. That big green guy. He also has lights in his cab. You can barely make it out on record though, but those lights are there.

In addition to the Gibson RD Artist, which he uses on records, Nick has a First Act Delgada, and he uses it for live shows. The Delgada's design has taken a lot of inspiration from the RD Artist, but has different electronics. Sounds real close though. Sounds real good.

His sound is definitely a "Vintage Rat Re-issue" blended with a clean signal. On Old Wounds I can clearly make out at least 3 separate bass tracks layered to make that huge grinding sound. Rat blended with an LS-2 or similar will get you going in the right direction!

I think he just runs everything thru the "Freakin Awesome-nator" and calls it a day.

Yeah, nothing like two clip lights...in stereo. I saw them almost a year ago and my ears are still bleeding....

The Rat, Artist, and eq won't be you nearly as close as two 300-400 watt amps cranked through custom Emperor cabinets.

I also dig his tone on the Brain Banger album... he uses a fender jazz bass on that one. I remember him using that Black n' maple jazz the first time i saw Breather Resist, too...

...game changing moment for me!

ressurrecting this thread sort of.

one thing people forget is that he isnt using the kind of solid state amps that a lot of people like on this forum (see: the kind that doesnt distort properly). The ampeg 200ts he has have a FET preamp that distorts nicely. That, combined with the rat likely provides a good deal of the sound. Just use a pickup that has a strong low/midrange but not overly pronounced treble.

He is def using the RatTail in place of the vintage RAT. I have a question, he has a Digitech digiverb pedal towars the end of his chain. Now, I know the guitar played uses the 3rd "hall" setting, but how and were does Nick use it?

He used setting 1 if I recall. And never really used it.

And yes. Definitely using the Rat Tail. He loves it. As he should.

Im sort of sad that theyve moved away from their earlier material so much. I like in and out of youth a lot, but it lacks the same forward momentum that their first two albums and their ep have.
