Your favourite (lightweight) cabs for GK Amps

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for a new cab for my GK 700 RBII. Because they're discontinued and I have no car, I have no possibilty to play the amp with the cabs in the nearby shops. The only cab I ever played with that amp was a Markbass 104HR, which I quite liked.

So, what are your favourite cabs with GK amps? I'm mostly interested in lightweight (<66 lbs) and loud cabs but open to any suggestions. Preferred style: rock with some light to heavy overdrive.

I used to have the 1001 RBII, and at the time I was Using a SWR Goliath III 410. It kicked A$$. I also played heavy rock then.
But, having no car?.. not sure you can ride the cab around town to gigs. It wasn't light, so not sure its for you.

I'm sure there are some lightweight options available, I just haven't tried any new light offerings lately.

GK cabs and heads always work well for me and the GK Neo line cabs with 12" drivers are my favorite. If you want to use the GK bi-amp feature in that head, a GK cab is where you want to look.

That said, I have played GK heads with all brand cabs over the decades and have yet to find a cab that they do not work well with. In recent years I have used GK heads with AudioKinesis, Bergantino, Eden, GK, Hartke and Mesa cabs and could not be more pleased.

I used mine with GK NEO 412, but that's a big cab. I liked the tone, it was fairly even and rounded nicely, so I'd wager a smaller NEO 12 would work nice, say a NEO 212.

That said, my favorite by far is 410 RBH, and it's what I've been using for a few years now. I sold my GK NEO 412 and only kept the 410 RBH. It's definitely not lightweight, but it fits in my car no problem. It's powerful, warm, punchy and it just slams. Weight wise, it's the same weight as the big 412 NEO was - 96 lbs. Totally worth it for me though. I pair it with 2001RB.

+1 to people suggesting the GK Neo cabs. I had the 212 and it was super light and sounded great. That being said, it was only a little smaller than my previous 410. If you're looking for something a bit smaller that can still be loud you might consider a GK CX210.

It's not that much of a deal really, 3 out of 4 venues provide bass cabs. At least that was my experience with my past gigs (I've always played guitar though). It's more like: If there's this wide choice of lightweight cabs, why bother getting a heavy one?

So apparently the GK Neos seem to be popular (obviously), but I'm not sure if they are disconected? Will take them into account, especially the 410 and 212.

Because they sound better. At least to me. To me, NEO would be a compromise.
But I understand the need for lighter weight gear, and luckily there's plenty of choice out there for people who want it and love it. GK NEO would be a perfect choice for you I think. They're not discontinued, check their site.

Thanks to advice from @treyandres, I installed Deltalite Neo 12s in my Bassman 212. She comes in at about 45lbs. While I've only had one chance to use it since the lockdown, I was more than impressed and can't wait to use it again.

In fact the NXT 212 is something i consider. I may have the opportunity to test one at least with the GK Legacy head. Do you have specific experience with GK+Bergantino?

If it's the perfect match, budget is not the biggest criterion. But I would be glad if it doesn't exceed ~1500 Euros (1700-1800$). Will be looking into those.
