Your first album?

First album that I bought myself, from money that I scraped together? Well, my parents had bought Meet The Beatles for me, it was OK for being fad of the month I guess, but by the time I started really getting into what was on the radio, I loved these guys, non-stop kick-ass rocking singles for over a year. I couldn’t afford them all, so I was quite happy when this came out…

Granted, there was some filler material on it, and I sensed that their moment was over, although the next single, “Him Or Me”, was just brilliant. But I moved on, as the next album was…

My mom bought me records from when I was a toddler but most of those (if not all of them) were children's albums. The first albums I remember asking for were Dare by The Human League and Freeze Frame by J. Geils Band. I was seven and my dad had just bought me a Walkman for the long drive between Seattle and Montreal.

Title pretty much explains it all...tell us what the first album you ever got (gift/bought/stole(...if thats what you do)) was.

Me: Metallica: ReLoad
Lol, mine was Metallica: Reload as well ( i was 13, am 35 now)… then i got Load and Black Album because my older brother was in to Metallica but the older stiff like Kill Em All, Justice and Ride the Lightening. Sparked my interest in bass and shaped my musical tastes for the next 20 years.

The Walking Thread.
I don't remember the first album I actually bought. But what I do remember is my brother was home from the service. He had the best stereo system I have ever seen (to this day). He ended up reenlisting and on the way to the airport he said I could have his record collection and stereo system. This would have been 1977. I realize now how lucky I was at 14 to be introduced to such amazing musicians. There were about 3 albums per artist.
In no particular order.
Earth, Wind & Fire.
Ohio Players
Commodores
Boz Skaggs
George Benson
Isley Brothers
Brick
Brothers Johnson
Etc...
I would Lay on my back in bed and listen with my headphones while looking at the albums and imagine me playing that music. Just Glorious. So much so, that when I found out what instrument was making that sound I liked, I Got My First Bass.
