Just curious how you guys have yours set? I keep mine almost the entire way rolled off...just have it up like 1/8 of a turn, if that. That gives me the thump and a full sound, it I turn it up too much it sounds kind of hollow to me...

Your P Bass Tone Knob

I have mine set about half way and the amp flat, then I can roll on/off depending on the sound of the gig.
Full on. I use my hands to get different tones,thumb with some palm mute if I want to tone down the brightness.

If I'm playing with my fingers, no more than 20% on.
With a pick, no more than 50% on.
I like that fat low-end P-tone, regardless of type of strings.
Wow, I'm surprised at how many don't have it 100%. This has me wanting to go back and try different sounds with my tone knob.

When playing/practicing by myself, I prefer it 'thumpy' I'll have it around 50%.
When playing with others or along with CD's, I feel I need to bump it up to about 70-75% on...it helps it to punch through the mix, IMO.

I wired around mine and play with flats. Roll down the 3k to almost nothing my eq and play with an old dirty sock under the strings at the bridge.
Pretty much always full on. I think I've rolled the tone off on my P basses a total of 2 or 3 times ever. Always got tone differences by using either fingers, pick, playing close to the bridge or to the neck.
Wide open. My 62 Precision is actually hardwired and has no tone knob...it's the character of the beast and I love it.
you might want to get your capacitor or tone pots checked. My 62 Reissue had this problem after I got Fralin PU's installed. Sounded great with tone off, but had almost no bass when I cranked the tone.
