i'll do anything if it pays enough. but the ampegs stay. except of course on rainy outdoor gigs and very tough load-ins.

I'm a DI fan cause creating "my tone" often involves some rodeo clown work with a plexi or twin owner... I can't be side tracking them and setting up mikes at the same time.

ya, the countryman as a speaker di on my ampegs is acceptable to me. but in the end, i deemed it only acceptable. it just isn't me. it sounded great...pretty much identical to a reddi, but i'd have problems with soundmen not rolling off the treble frequencies i hate so that didn't last long.

I still haven't gotten to use my PR40 live yet... :bawl::bawl:

J-M, I know this may be silly, but what mic stand-type or style do you use, or do you use an amp clip? I'm thinking just a straight, non-boom mic w/ the fat metal base that I can just throw in front of my cab and be good to go and no risk of it tumping over or anyone really running into it.

I do like those amp clips tho.

i actually don't take a mic and z bar when i fly. i'm afraid to bash the mic up, plus i just don't get excited about micing the rental amps i get. once in a while i get a really good one...most of the time i think i'm actually better off with the vtd's di.

the reason, you ask? well while the mic does sound awesome and has this throaty goodness i just don't get in a regular di, i've noticed that on some of my gigs the high end is just not there. used to like it that way and i still do to an extent. however, i've been wanting just a little more pop in the high end lately. sometimes i get it with the mic, sometimes i don't. so through listening tests, i've found that a couple soundmen i work with just plug it in and leave it flat. it's a great sound, and it sounds a lot like the cab in a mix, but as i worked on eqing the recordings i did with it to make the high end pop more, it became apparent to me that my new vt deluxe can cop pretty much that exact tone without any extra eq.

don't know how it can do it, but it does. and it's a lot easier to plug in a mic cable to the vt deluxe than futz with the mic, z bar, etc. however, it does look very cool, so maybe i'll just put it up there for looks ;)

I'm coming back late to this one, Jimmy; so, maybe you're over this already... but it sounds like you'd be happy with the VT feeding processed DI to FOH and unprocessed 1/4 out to your stage amp. Was that not working for you?

never tried it but i don't think i'd like it. i like whatever's going to house to go through my amp.
