Zoom B3n: PC can't detect it for recording

I owned the previous version of this pedal and used to record via usb to my laptop, no problem - just changed some settings and that was it. Now i got this new B3n and though it's got a USB connection my laptop just can't detect it for recording. Any one else has this problem? Was it designed this way? if it was, now i need an audio interface. Any suggestions for a good one that doesn't cost a lot would be appreciated

I bought a Focusrite Scarlett Solo 2 and I've been very pleased with mine.

I've got a Zoom B3n and a Focusrite Scarlett Solo 2 and am about to throw the Solo 2 off a bridge.

Trying to simply record bass --> Audacity, running on a MacBookPro, and failing, hard.

Removing the Zoom from the equation still gives the same problems:

1. While Solo plugged in / powered up, there is a loudddd high-pitched interference noise from my monitor. Doesn't end up in the recording, but OMG it sucks to listen to it in the room.

2. The Solo just simply cannot seem to provide the DAW/computer with anything that sounds remotely like what is coming out of my monitor when I play.

Sadly coming to the conclusion that one must spend mega-$$ on both a hardware interface and a DAW to achieve anything approaching simple, useful functionality.

If anyone's getting a $200 interface like a Solo 2 to work, can they explain how??? :-)

You shouldn't need to spend big bucks for quality sound these days.

How old is the computer/what are the specs? Have you updated the drivers for the Focusrite? What DAW? I work with a PC, but I've used interfaces in the sub $400 price range with 0 issues. It's been pretty much plug and play. Driver and software install are the only things I've had to do.

1. This might be something to do with your room. My bedroom has some interference going on, so any time I record there I need to find the right angle to sit at to avoid it. But even at it's lowest it can be pretty extreme.

2. What are you using for playback? If I'm reading it right, it sounds good to you while you're playing, but not so hot when you listen after laying it down? That's odd to me. There's 0 difference in sound between my input and my playback.

Also, I use Reaper which is a completely free DAW. It shouldn't be influencing the sound of your recordings.

This is a DIY recording done in my basement using Reaper and a Focusrite interface (Saffire) for everything. I'm not saying it's perfect, but I've been to professional studios and gotten inferior results.

Wow, this forum has been around a while. I just bought a B3n so, despite being around for a long time, the B3n is new to me!

Here is what I've rigged up for my home studio... To record I plug my bass into the B3n, run an output cable to a Tascam GB-10 Guitar and Bass Trainer ($159) and then split the output to run a line from the GB-10 to an amp via aux-in (to hear what I'm playing) and to my PC's via usb where I use OBS Studio to record video and audio on my pc. I can add songs to play with to the Tascam GB-10, or play with the drum beats from the B3n. I control the bass and song volume independently using the GB-10.

Perhaps I'm losing something audio-wise, but it sounds okay to me.
