So, I've been stupid. Very stupid.
What I described in my earlier post still works. But there's a
much easier, and more importantly, safer way to share patches, even if it's not officially documented as such by Zoom. If only the guy/gal who owns zoomb6patches.com provided some instructions I'm sure his/her site would be full of patches by now. At least I was unable to find any instructions anywhere. But it's ridiculously easy. So easy I didn't even consider trying it when I played around trying to find a way to share patches. It was just too easy and too stupid to try. Now I can kick myself for not trying this and go the long way around instead. Anyway, here's what you do:
To export:
- Open Guitar lab.
- Add the patch you wish to share/export to your patch pool.
- Drag the patch from your patch pool to your desktop or any folder you have open in your explorer window. You'll get a .zptc file in that folder.
- Alternatively, if you know you have the patch in your pool already and you know the name of the patch, you can simply copy it from the Documents\ZOOM Guitar Lab\Patches folder and use that. You only need the .zptc file for this, no need for the .DB file.
- Done!
To import:
- Open Guitar lab.
- Drag the patch from its folder to the patch pool list window in Guitar Lab. It will add another patch to the patch pool list. It doesn't matter if you already have a patch pool or not. The database file will update itself automatically.
- Drag the patch from the patch pool to whatever preset slot you want it to be.
- Done! You'll find the new patch file in the Documents\ZOOM Guitar Lab\Patches folder as well so it can be included in your normal backups.
Of course, you still cannot share patches that include 3rd party IR's, unless you share those along with the patch. The new user then has to import that IR to the B6 before importing the patch.
Who's gonna tell Zoom to include this next time they revise their manual?
-edit-
I also found this for people looking for patches.
Zoom B6 Patches - Google Drive
You can upload as well, but since you have both read and write permission on that drive folder, do try not to delete anything
