Zorg Effects releases Küth

Toulouse, France – If you are a bass or a guitar player who likes to play low or to pile up fuzzes and octavers, you sometimes might ear that your speakers can't handle well the low part of the audio spectrum. You may actually see your speakers make deep and slow back and forth movements. It could result in a loss of precision and your sound gets somewhat muddy.

Küth is here to help with this. It removes all inaudible frequencies under the subs and minimize parasitic movements of your speakers.

To carry out his mission, Küth is made of two 2nd order low cut filters in series, both with a -12dB/Oct slope. The first one has a fixed cutoff at 20Hz. The second filter has a variable frequency between 20Hz and 100Hz which is set with the potentiometer.

Seems to, but the Thumpinator is a 24 dB/Octave and is fixed at (I think) 26Hz. the 12 dB/Octave is more the Broughton flavor or HPF in that it's variable via the potentiometer, and has a primary secondary kinda situation. I'm pretty sure The Broughton and the Thumpinator are primary (single) only. My hot-take is that if you don't have a HPF this would definitely be worth checking out. If you do, I don't know if there's enough magic there to justify the upgrade. Would love to see some commentary from someone who owns one tho...

I have a micro-Thumpinator; per conversation with the maker, the slope is a very steep 36 dB per octave, with a cutoff frequency of 25 Hz. It is a fixed-frequency filter, as you say.

I also have an fDeck HPF3 -- like the Küth (subject of this thread), it's a 12 dB/octave fixed filter stacked with the 12 dB/octave sweepable filter, though with a corner frequency of 35 Hz for the fixed filter and 35 to 140 Hz for the variable.

I've found that I like the fDeck better in some situations (and with some cabs) and the micro-Thumpinator in others. (In still other situations, I prefer running without an HPF though, more and more, playing live -- especially through someone else's rig or in an unknown room or at something like a jam session -- I've been using an HPF. I've been carrying the fDeck with a short patch cable and a 9V battery in my gigbag, lately.)

It would be interesting to try the Küth alongside the other two.

Yea, sorry about the error on the thumpinator. I don't have equip or expertise to do my own testing. I picked up the 24 dB/octave thing somewhere around here, and have just always thought it was correct. If you talked to Max, that's the gold standard. I sit (because I'm not standing) corrected...

I agree that some scholarly commentary from someone who has access to this pedal, as well as the others mentioned would be awesome. I have the HPF in the thumpinator that I use with my little 10" monitor. Not sure what goes on in the mains but it sounds pretty good. I know they have HPF capability in the board, but no clue what's going on there, other than it sounds pretty good...
At home I have a HPF in my source audio EQ2 that I use in my little home studio practice space. It really improves the efficiency of the small combo amp I use for that.
It's been a bit since I've played anything big. My last "big" rig was a Hartke 3500 head with (I think it was) 18" (but might have been 15") Hartke cab. HPF usage was not that main-stream at the time; it was the early 90's. Am sure some HPF would have been beneficial...
 
Hi, being the manufacturer of these pedals I don't know if I'm allowed to add some info but here's the thing:
- I've updated the my website with a manual that show frequency responses if that helps. It's the responses I've got with my small frequency analyzer that unfortunately can't go under 10Hz, but it's a start. I can post theoretical curves if you want:

- It was a bit like "oh damn now I remember!" to read this thread. Someone told me about the thumpinator 4 years ago I think, but I forgot the name. And when a friend of mine came home one year ago to ask for such a filter I couldn't find the name again and none of my research on google led me to it... So I built one for him and thought it could be useful to other's... Bummer... The thumpinator looks very cool and 2x times smaller than mine...

It's cool that you give props to others.

The micro-Thumpinator is pretty cool (and I'm not sure it's half the size, but I could be wrong), but it's a fixed filter, where yours is variable. There are advantages to each approach.

The fDeck HPF3 is also pretty cool, but yours differs in where the fixed filter is set and in the range of the variable filter. (If there are other differences in design or performance, I don't know.) Different people might prefer different things, there.

Beyond that, if your pedal is well-designed (has a minimal impact on tone and dynamics, apart from doing its filtering job) and reliable, I think there is room for it in the market.
