Probably not but I guess it would depend on the specific instrument. I'm mostly a 5 string player these days but I do have a soft spot for vintage looking P4s. In 1966 when I was 16 I bought a brand new sunburst Fender Precision Bass for $199.00 with HSC and that was the bass I originally learned to play on. Thus my ongoing love affair..... Sure wish I still had that one!

alternate raised pole pieces i believe ............but i'm no expert on the subject , hence the original question.
i do own a 2012 American standard P4 that does sport the custom shop pick ups and that's what they look like.
maybe a fender expert could chime in and help us out...............nice bass by the way.

Mine does not have raised pole pieces so I guess they are just standard US P5 Pickups. Personally I think they sound great. I had one of these a while back with Nordstrand pickups and I think this one sounds just as good. I really couldn't hear a difference at all.
