Details

Hey Talkbass,

Have a very good condition 2014 G&L JB up for sale.

Has the active EMG X series JAX Alnico V magnet pickups installed. Versatile range of tone options with no noise. Pickups are currently set at 3mm gap (low E string) for a warmer vintage tone. Can easily raise pickup height to get a crisper, higher output tone. It’s fun to play with the range for different styles.

One of G&L's best builds during the Plek era. It has a comfortable Modern C 1.5" neck with 12" radius. Unlike recent builds, this one has the thick rosewood fretboard style neck with very easy to read side marker dots.

The guitar weighs about 10.1 lbs and is a solid Alder body

Ruby red metallic finish, and matching painted headstock.

There are few small cosmetic finish flaws on the backside of body, see pics.

Set up with flatwound strings and medium-low action. The truss rod and all set up adjustment screws turn smoothly.

Includes the original hardcase that fits the body perfectly, and the usual spec and authenticity docs. Case has some wear marks on surface.

Happy to answer any questions or take additional pics.

Reach out about shipping cost if interested.

Cool bass!
So these pickups come with the X-series pickup on board? Is the tone control the Active Tone Control (VLPF) EMG talks about on their website?

Hi, yes this set has the VLPF with X series preamp built into pickups. The control knobs are elevated some to fit the battery underneath.

These are always active, no passive bypass right?

G&L's ruby red is awesome! Beautiful bass. 10 lbs isn't light but it's also not bad either. Very manageable, especially for a 4 string. Just out of curiosity, how do the EMG alnicos compare to the stock pickups? I imagine the EMGs have a little more of that pop and zing.

Yeah definitely gets super sensitive and loud as pickups get close to strings!

I'm a big fan of the passive tone of G&L made pickups. But I haven't reinstalled the originals because the sensitivity of the EMG system changes how I play the guitar and that makes it fun to have as an option. With the flatter 12" radius and flatwounds, I can play some interesting touch sensitive runs up and down the neck that would take more effort on my LB100 or L2000, even with the active engaged on the L2000.
