I recently took this on a trade knowing the risks... I'm not a J bass guy! BUT.... I desperately wanted to be AND I am a huge fan of Kevin's work since he was the only luthier I could find that was willing to fret my then fretless NT Spector 6 string bass. (He did an Unbelievable job BTW!) I figured if this J couldn't make me fall for Jazz basses, no bass would. I've learned the hard lesson that sounding like Geddy is partly in his fingers, partly in him being a professional with manufacturers working to tailor gear to meet the tone in his head, and partly the tone in my head is just different than what a J can produce!

SO enough background. Here's the specs:

- Matte/satin black finish over alder body with matching headstock
- Black Hipshot Ultra-lite tuners and A-style bridge
- 34" scale maple neck w/ rosewood fingerboard
- 'Bolt-thru' neck. This is a great Kevin Brubaker design feature that is basically a deep-set bolt-on with nicely carved heel giving the feel of NT with the tone of bolt-on.
- Luminlay side dots
- Quilted maple pickguard and control plate
- Paul Arntz custom overwound p/ups
- Bartolini 9V 3-band pre w/ push-pull active passive and push-pull mid shift.
- 19mm spacing
- About 9lbs
- Condition has several dents, chips, scratches. Call it 7/10.
- Includes a heavy duty 'rockready' brand soft case/gig bag in good condition.

Price includes shipping in the lower 48 States and PayPal (or US Postal Money Order!).

Cash is king, but there are a few fairly specific trades that I'd entertain (+/- cash on some of these obviously!):

- Emerald Balor 5
- Yamaha Attitude LTD II Anniversary (purple or black)
- Yamaha RBX6JM (turquoise)
- Tung Wing 5 or 6!!!
- Sandberg Forty-Eight 5
- Spector/SSD Rex, NS-X, SB, SD, or possibly other US models
- Spector Euro Classic 5 (34")
- Tune Somnus, Zi-II, or Zi-III 6
- Warwick Dolphin Pro 5
- Curbow XT33 5 or 6
- Zon Sonus BG4 or BG5 (Billy Gould signature)
- Music Man SR5 with solid rosewood neck (BFR?)

A trade deal for a Dingwall Combustion 5 fell through, so she's officially available.

Nut width is 1.75". The action is currently what I consider medium-low. The low B is at .112" above the 21st fret. Looking at the bridge saddle height adjustments, there is a little room to go lower. Hope this helps!

Thanks

I'm astounded that this bass is still here for this price.

Kevin Brubaker is one of the greatest luthiers in the world. A couple of years ago he was even picked as the primary builder for Ken Smith basses.
Agreed! He's an amazing builder and person too. His work is virtually unparalleled. I can't believe that this is still here at this (LOW) price!

Not that this bass is what I consider beat up, but it would be a perfect road warrior for the person who has a 'case queen' Brubaker as their studio bass... Or just use this one for both situations!

Thanks for the kind words. Kevin really is great to work with. He was above and beyond with his communication, professionalism, and quality of work on the Spector he revamped for me. That's what pushed me to jump on this bass when I was given the chance. I will own another Brubaker someday... Just not a J!

An Emerald Balor 5 just popped up that I would really like to gather finds for. While the current price on my Brubaker is still my rock-bottom, I'm now anxious to sell. If the Emerald sells beforehand, I'm thinking of keeping this Brubaker. Even though I'm not a J bass guy, I'm a believer that every proper bass arsenal needs one!

Added a Zon Billy Gould signature and Music Man with rosewood neck to the trade list.

Here's a long shot, but I'm also looking for a Music Man Majesty 6 in gold for my brother. If you can hook me up with connection to one of these, I'll try to work a great deal for you!

Since I can't/won't go lower on price and there's been such little interest in this bass, I'm going to hang on to it. I'd still consider working a trade towards an instrument on my trade list in the original post.
