Birdsong HY5. 5 string. 31 inch scale. Pretty much in new condition. This bass is stunning! First and only, at this point, bass made with a scroll by Birdsong. Made from Spanish cedar with a figured walnut top. Mystery wood on the back. Matching walnut headstock. Rosewood fretboard. Maple neck. Kent Armstrong passive soapbar pickups. Has 2 inputs so it can be wired for stereo. Plays so nice! Just over 8 lbs. The only reason I'm selling is that even at 8 lbs my tired back just gets sore playing it. I don't really want to sell it but I can't justify havingit in my living room as art. This bass would cost $3300 new with a 9 month wait. Looking for $2650 shipped. $2450 shipped or B/O . Will trade for a Birdsong that weighs less.

I've always wondered what they're like. I live very close to them, but they haven't had anything ready to play when I've called. I've heard good things and if I can sell some basses on this site I just might snatch it.

They do make great basses and this one is no exception. I really like the feel of the neck on this bass. I most certainly will replace it with another Birdsong.

Do they make their own pick ups?

Not yet. Kent Armstrong soapbars on the the HY5. I'm having them put on my next bass. I like the how they sound. On this bass, anyway.

Based on looking at the picture of the back, on my phone which admittedly weird with pictures. Looks like bocote to me. Potentially an oddly grained zebrawood. My bet is on bocote though.

Joe,

I'd LOVE to own that Hy5; however, I already have one Birdsong (Cortobass), and Scott is now building me a custom Fusion bass. The 5-string would be a perfect way to complete my "Birdsong stable", but finances just do not allow for the acquisition of your Hy5.

Best of luck with the sale!

Wow, three "birds". Nice! I have a Sadana being done by Scott (12S-055).
Already debating what the next one will be, either a Fusion or a Jazz scroll-type.
They sure make works of art there at Birdsong! And they are the nicest guys, to boot.
GLWS!

Yes, Scott and the (small) "gang" at Birdsong Guitars are VERY nice and great to work with! I currently have a Cortobass, and he is building me a custom-spec Fusion (#12F-033) that I should have before my birthday in March. I told Joe that I would buy this Hy5 if I could afford it!
