Here is a very rare and special bass. I will not repeat the history behind it but simply point you to ASB-1 where Bruce Johnson maintains an excellent site about these unique and extremely rare instruments. Bruce is a leading expert on Ampeg basses, especially the scroll basses and he estimates less than 25 fretless devil basses to have been made. Including mine he is aware of 4 or 5 to be in circulation...

This AUSB-1 is in great condition for its age. All original with some gorgeous finish checking. The fingerboard is in perfect condition with no damage or wear what-so-ever. Back of the neck is also in great shape. Mystery pickup in place and operational. Most of the Ampegs from this era were apparently fitted with precision pickups etc but mine is all original down to the mute installed over the bridge.

Comes with non-original hardcase custom made for this bass. Literally brand new.

Selling for $5250 PayPalled & shipped to your door (anywhere in the world) with fully insured express service. If you are able to pickup in person then I will discount $250.-

WOW!!! That thing is sick!!!!
I just got me one of Bruce's AEB recreations.
If I played fretless I'd be all over it!
GLWS.

Ah, heart, be still! Yep, that's the real thing, in about as nice condition as you'll find. The only prettier ones around today are the ones I've restored. If I had the money, I'd snap it up for my own collection. But I don't. So I hope it finds a good home.

Thank you very much for all your kind words and interest. Special thanks go to Bruce for his amazing post. He is a true gentleman.

I am very sorry to have to let this gem of an instrument go. I know I will never find another one but life happens and it needs to go. If you have a serious interest but find the price to be a barrier please feel free to hit me with any reasonable offer. Not interested in any trades unless it involves gold or silver.

Wishing you all a very good weekend. All the best!

EDIT : Serial Number 1141

Man, does this bass bring back memories!

I found one in a PawnShop in Charlseton, SC in '77 for $199.00. Mine was Fretted, and played like a Truck! I ended up trading it for a Mosrite Ventures Model bass at Freedom Guitars in San Diego. Last I heard ('87) it was still hanging in there...

GLWS!
