*SOLD* When I first got this bass, my girlfriend looked at it and said "Sweetness" -- referring to both the big "S" on the headstock and the caramel colored quilted maple body. I'm so sad to let this one go! But my small hands are just not built for a 5-string, and l must pay some bills. So my loss is your gain!

The bass has that characteristic Ken Smith sound: a super punchy mid-range, unbelievable slap tone when it's scooped, and something I can only describe as a "silky growl." I'm asking for $3500 (including shipping) in the continental US, 3600 if it's international, and $3400 flat for a local sale here in Los Angeles! A brand new one of these would cost you upwards of $5000 to $6000.

NO TRADES, please. Also, a sale in the continental U.S. is strongly preferred. PayPal and shipping just cost too much off the top, and PayPal offers the best protection for both buyer and seller! International buyers, please be aware that I need to net at least $3400 on this, after all the fees.

Please PM me if you're serious. This bass was previously owned by 2 great TalkBass-ers, both highly professional. They kept her in great condition. I have not gigged with her at all. The only flaw now is some slight worming on the back of the body, but it's barely visible in bright light. (Pics below)

Here are the specs on this gorgeous Ken Smith BMT 5 7x7!
  • 7-Piece Body Wings Figured Mahogany Core (w/ Maple & Walnut Laminates)
  • 7-Piece Maple/Bubinga Neck
  • Beautiful Exhibition Grade Quilted Maple Top AND Back.
  • Fingerboard: Gaboon Ebony (black as it gets)

  • Gold Smith Hardware & Dunlop "Flush Mount" Strap locks
  • World famous Smith Humbucking Pickups
  • Smith 3 Band Active EQ (9V) and Parallel Switches
  • Current set of Smith light Gauge Stainless Steel "Slap Masters"
  • 1 ¾ inch at the Nut - 18mm String Spacing at the Bridge
  • Ken Smith Original Hardcase.
  • Allen Keys, polishing wax, Smith cloth, and Smith Strap with Straplocks

For those who are asking about the sound and tone, here are a few good YouTube clips.

1. Reginald from "Bass Freq" demos a model that is very similar to mine. At around 3:30 in the video, he starts talking about that characteristic "Ken Smith" sound.

2. Here's the demo from Bass Club Chicago. The main difference is that theirs is a 5-piece body. Mine is a 7-piece.

Here's an interview with John King, a fabulous bass player who really gets the "throaty" jazz bass tone out of his Ken Smith.

I'm considering multiple kind offers, but cash is king. Please PM me if you'd like to make an offer. I originally paid $4k for this beauty, so obviously an offer that's closer to that number would be very attractive. Thanks for your interest!

Local deal appears to have fallen through, so this baby is still available. Please PM me if you are still interested. I would very much like to get $3500 locally, or $3600 including shipping to the continental US. Thanks for your time and interest.
