I just took this bass on a trade and it's definitely a cool piece! Honestly, I've never had a bass with a whammy bar before and I was curious to try it... and I did!
And now, as my GAS moves on, so must this beautiful bass.
This is an early 80s Ovation Ultra bass. They came stock with the Kahler Tremolo, Schaller tuners, and a Dimarzio PAF pickup. Not a bad spec sheet! The pickup has a switch for series and parallel, so you can thump or you can THUMP. It's quite a nice, simple setup for that classic tone, but with options.
The neck has a great V profile to it. It's definitely a signature feel that Ovation liked to use in their guitars, too. This particular one needed some love, so I did a fret level and polish. I also rebuilt it, made sure all of the electronics were working well and cleaned it up. It plays great!
The bridge works fine, but I don't have a proper fitting bar. I have one that kinda works, but if you intend to do some serious tremming, you should get the real deal... or make one if you are inclined.
There's chips and dings, sure. It's over 30 years old! But it's tastefully played and worn in. Overall, it's in good shape. The color is fantastic.
Truss rod works fine, includes a non-original gig bag.
Weighs 9lb, 5oz.
