I originally bought the bass from the classifieds here on TB.
The only reason I'm selling is because I have some serious GAS for a specific local bass so I won't be accepting trades. For full disclosure it does have some paint chipped off the very top of the headstock that's been touched up so it isn't really noticeable unless you're looking for it. I also had one of the original switches removed from the preamp by a local tech because it was making static noise while I played. The switch gave you the option to blend your passive and active signal or to keep the two completely discrete. You can still solder one of those options on the bass but you can't replace the switch because the whole preamp is epoxied. It's now set so that the two modes are discrete and the problem is non-existent now. I had the black guard custom made for this bass (which I think looks way better than the original white) from WD guards. You can't really see this in the pics but the finish is a subtle black sparkle. This bass is made in Korea.
The preamp is a John East Retro made specifically to fit the DJ5. A music man bartolini bridge pup was also installed along with a bartolini soapbar for the neck by the original owner. You have volume/balance on the first knob, treble/bass on the second, and mid frequency/mid level on the third. You can also run the bass passive or active. I had a switch installed that let's you run the MM pickup in series, parallel or single coil.
This bass gets insane growl out of the bridge pup, especially if you set it to series. When the bridge pup is set to parallel or single coil there is a more even balance between the two pickups. If you're looking for the versatility of a 55-02 with the sexy aesthetic of a jazz bass, this is the bass for you. For better pictures check out the original sale thread.
