Do you still have one of these?

And what is the difference between this and the regular J-Retro. Is it only a different cover? So, to fit it in a regular J, I could use the stock control cavity cover, drill 2 small holes for the little switches, and then just move it from the CJ cover to the "Fender" cover?

I used to have one of these. The preamp is mounted on a circuit board with the pots....since they are surface mounted, the pot spacing cannot be moved. Your idea will work as long as the spacing on the J bass plate is the same as the DJ control plate. Hope that made sense.

It makes perfect sense. But, I don't know if a DJ control plate and a Fender J control plate have the same spacing.

And, anyway, I thought the pots and PCB on those were connected by ribbon cables? So, I would have thought the same assembly could accommodate different hole spacing based on the available length of the ribbon cables? But, I've never held one in my hand, so I don't really know.

I bought one these preamps from this posting a while back. That's been my only experience with this preamp. Here's a pic of the one I had. It was definitely surface mounted. Wish I had taken a pic of the circuit board for you.
