I'm selling a Shen 7/8 Willow flatback bass. It's the SB200 model in their range and is a copy of a Gemunder bass. You can find lots of information about these basses here on TB or online. I love this bass and have had it since 2006 and will be really sorry to see it go. It really does have a huge sound that you can only get from such a big-bodied bass and is especially great under the bow although I've mostly used it for jazz playing. There are so many great things about the design of this bass:
- The body is huge and the sound is big and warm yet it's a 41.5" string length
- Despite the size the bass is very light due to the use of Willow on the back and sides
- It has the response of a flatback with some of structural rigidity of a roundback due to the slight roundness in the back and the X brace
- Super stable - never had an open seam or crack even throughout wide temperature and humidity changes in Ottawa and some occasional outdoor gigs
Specifics of this bass:
- You can find photos here: https://goo.gl/photos/j3o16DpGgiCMfba26
- I bought it in 2006 and had Arnold Schnitzer do the initial setup and install a C extension with a D gate.
- Full Circle pickup and a set of Innovation 140B strings
- Marvin tailpiece cable and a carbon fibre endpin
- Leather bumpers on the left side installed by Bill Merchant
I will include with this bass:
- A heavy-duty bass bag. It's black, made from heavy-duty nylon and has pretty generous padding. I got this bag from Volker Narhmann years ago. It fits the bass and has a good shoulder strap with double anchor points on both sides. The bag has seen a lot of action but it's still entirely functional and protects the bass well.
Lowest price I've found for these new now is USD 5750. I'm open to reasonable offers on mine.
