1966 Fender Jazz Bass for sale
66 STUFF:
Neck (straight, no twists, truss rod works fine.Excellent Frets! No breaks in the binding)
Very small hairline crack behind E string tuner does not go through to the other side and effects nothing. Screw hole drilled in front of headstock between e and a string, probably for a string retainer button.
Body: (refinished.wear below strings, between neck Pickup and neck prior to refin
Wear in body after refin above strings between Pickups is visible in photos. some nicks)

I have a 66 jazz (all original) and the fingerboard looks very similar... nice dark rosewood... really love that bass and it sounds amazing...
So tempted to buy another... but too expensive :(

DC3 right on the point. That rosewood looks completely different to that the rosewood that you'd see on production basses nowadays. i'm not an expert on the topic but i think it would associate it with the higher grade kind (dalbergia negra ?). And since r/w has recently been classified as endangered specie it will make it even harder even for the common kind to use as fretboard material.

That rosewood reminds me of the back and side wood on Martin Guitars from the same period.
Nice bass....

That is Brazilian rosewood, which was banned for export in the late 60's due to logging and clearcutting reducing the supply. Companies then went to Indian rosewood. Now there are newer restrictions on it due to supply.

Lovely Jazz! Love the color of that board, most likely dense Brazilian..and I've only seen boards like that on some early MIJ fender copies.The luthiers in Japan knew what they were doing in the wood selection dept. By contrast the Fender factory pretty much slapped 'em out of the pile of boards in the warehouse. The weight is perfect here. This is tempting for sure, a real player from the looks.

where did the "crop circle" come from? How did this develop? Did someone try to buff out some play wear with a dremel and end up sanding off a perfect circle? Was this bass played by someone with huge thumbs? :) ...just curious, and for full disclosure, what is the cause of that circular de-finnished pattern? Thanks! GLWTS

I'm pretty sure this was once my bass. I had it refinished and left the circle unfinished. I sold it around '94 - '96.

I remember it as a great-playing bass.

This is a great deal. I've been in the market and I found nothing this affordable. You might attract more attention if you add the pickguard and the old chrome covers, some folks love to see the vintage details more in place....
