Details

I had just bought this Shen hybrid - SB 190 - excellent, young (2014, barely played by the original owner) bass when an older bass I had seen last summer became available again. I'm listing the Shen to help pay for the older bass.

On November 4, 2017, I took the Shen to Peter Doubrovsky to have the sound post adjusted, the tailpiece wire replaced and the bridge re-set.
Those adjustments have made the bass easier to play.
I've been playing it for several hours a day, mostly with the bow, and it is beginning to sound louder and more 'mature.'

if you have been waiting for a nearly-new but 'played-in' gem from the house of Samuel Shen, this could be your moment.

The design is inspired by the Rogeri bass. It has violin corners and deep ribs.

Wooden you like to know:
- neck is maple
- top is medium-grain spruce
- sides are carved willow
- back is laminated maple, with ladder bracing

Brass single unit tuners
Ebony nut, fingerboard, and tailpiece saddle, Hill style tailpiece
10 mm steel rod endpin
Maple bridge with adjusters
Orange-brown finish.

Dimensions:
Top length 43 1/2″,
Upper bout width 20 5/8″,
Middle bout width 14 1/2″,
Lower bout width 26 1/2″,
Depth at tail 9 3/8″, Depth at upper bout corner 8 3/8″, Depth at neck 7 1/4″, String length 41 1/4″.
"D" neck

This bass has a "vocal quality" under the bow, and is punchy with a growl when played pizzicato.

Reward your diligent practice with the Shen's crystal-clear tone; just be sure to play in tune!

shoulder, and elsewhere there are a few very minor bumps from its original shipping experience, but is otherwise in nearly-new condition.

This is an ideal bass for both students and professionals.

The flat back will help prevent the cracks that befall many "carved" basses.

Strung with Thomastik Spirocore Orchestra-gauge strings - a $212 value.

Brand new, without a set-up, these basses sell for around $4,000.

This bass has been professionally set up - its fingerboard dressed, the sound post calibrated, strings properly spaced, bridge cut and footed expertly.

Shipping to Continental United States = $150 - but Southern California pickup is preferred.

Price is pretty firm; the bass is worth every penny.
Very used padded bag and a Gage Realist pickup would be included if your offer is generous.

Dang...we're neighbors within a 1 mile radius...

Been scouting affordable uprights.

So, a few questions.

1. Is there a case?
2. I assume no pickup
3. Is it a D or Eb neck?
4. Any partial trades?

Hans,
This area is crawling with musicians! Nice to know another one.
To address your questions:
1. I bought it without a case - and planned to sell it without one. I do have a funky TKL case that needs some TLC; maybe we can massage it into the deal
2. I can include a Gage "Realist"
3. It is a D neck
4. What "partial trade" did you have in mind?
